Your Strengthen Alabama Homes Application was Approved, Now What?
You have been approved for the Strengthen Alabama Homes grant – congratulations! Now, you’re probably wondering what to do next. All you need to do is follow these simple steps to get the most from your grant.
Step 1: Choose A Contractor
During your application, you chose 3 contractors, and they submitted bids to install your new FORTIFIED roof. Now, it is time to choose one of them.
As you evaluate contractors, be sure to ask about the specifics of their bids, including which warranties are included. Also, ask about financing options for any costs above and beyond the grant amount. At Complete Roofing, we include an enhanced warranty in our bid and offer a low-cost financing program.
Once you know which contractor you will choose, make your selection in the Strengthen Alabama Homes portal. The contractor will be notified, and they will contact you. If you choose Complete Roofing, expect our call on the same business day you make the selection.
After you’ve chosen a contractor, your FORTIFIED Evaluator will share the details of their evaluation. They will also work with your contractor throughout the process to document the process and submit your home for FORTIFIED certification.
Step 2: Get Your New FORTIFIED Roof
Your chosen contractor will need to perform a visual inspection of your property. Since the Evaluator already documented the necessary information about the attic, your roofer won’t need to enter your home during the inspection.
After inspection, you will work with your roofing contractor to choose materials for the project and set a timeline for installation. You have many options when it comes to roofing materials, so be ready to choose the right color and look for your home!
When the time comes to install your roof, the process typically takes between 1 and 3 days, depending on the pitch and complexity of your roof and weather conditions. You can usually stay in your home during a roof replacement, but it may be noisy.
Step 3: Receive Your FORTIFIED Designation Certificate
As previously mentioned, your FORTIFIED Evaluator will work with your roofing contractor to gather the necessary documentation and submit it to the FORTIFIED program. Once the program reviews this documentation, you will receive your FORTIFIED certificate.
After your certificate arrives, the Strengthen Alabama Homes program will pay your grant amount directly to the roofing contractor. If your new roof costs less than the grant amount, you will owe nothing out-of-pocket.
Step 4: Submit Information to Insurance Company and Grant Program
Once your new roof is installed and you have your FORTIFIED certificate, you can shop for homeowners insurance and begin reaping the benefits of a wind resistant roof! You will also submit your new homeowners insurance information to the grant program and the they will follow up with your insurer to confirm you’re receiving all of the appropriate discounts.
The Strengthen Alabama Homes grant program can be confusing – but it is definitely worth it. If you have questions throughout the process, don’t hesitate to contact the Complete Roofing team.
